Academic Fellowship

Our postgraduate academic fellowship prepares pharmacy graduates who would like to pursue a career in pharmacy education, offering a curriculum that includes clinical practice, teaching, service and scholarship.

 

About the Program

The University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy Academic Fellowship is a 12-month program located in Columbia, South Carolina. that aims to develop highly proficient clinical academicians who will excel in all pillars of academia, including teaching, scholarship, and service.  Graduates of this program are qualified to seek full-time employment at a college or school of pharmacy. Clinical practice sites will be matched to the fellow’s area of interest or specialty (cardiology, infectious diseases, internal medicine, pediatrics).  Fellows selected for the program will begin in July each year. 

Number of positions available: 1 

  • Dissect the fundamentals of academia, including but not limited to course coordination, committee involvement, tenure and promotion, and mentorship.
  • Apply skills in scholarly activity through research experience and scholarly deliverables. 
  • Develop an appreciation of service through the University, College of Pharmacy, and professional organizations through active committee work and volunteerism. 
  • Establish teaching philosophy, style, and preceptorship through educational deliverables in the USC-COP curriculum. 
  • Manage and maintain an ambulatory clinical practice site while balancing concurrent academic responsibilities. 
Teaching – 30%
  • Student didactic and experiential

Academic Professional Service – 15%
  • University committee(s)
  • Clinical teaching certificate and/or track leadership
  • Professional local and/or national involvement 
Clinical Practice – 30%
  • 1-2 days of clinical practice per week
  • Ambulatory care based on applicant interest area (e.g., cardiology, infectious diseases, internal medicine, pediatrics)
  • Opportunities for service line expansion 
Scholarship – 25% 
  • Scholarship of teaching and learning
  • Clinical research/big data experience
  • Manuscript and peer review opportunities

Stipend: $54,000

Location: Columbia at USC College of Pharmacy

Timeline: 1 year duration with a target start date of July 

General Amenities:

  • Private office with laptop and/or desktop computer

  • Professional organization membership to SCSHP or SCPHA
  • Specific travel expenses covered to 1 national meeting (e.g. APhA Annual Meeting or ASHP Midyear).

Title: Clinical Instructor at the USC College of Pharmacy with full-time faculty perks. Eligible for a Carolina Card with access to USC sporting events, cultural events, gym membership, discounts and more.

Macaleigh Mancuso

Macaleigh Mancuso, Pharm.D.

Macaleigh Mancuso, Pharm.D., is originally from Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Auburn University Harrison College of Pharmacy after earning a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from The University of Southern Mississippi. Dr. Mancuso completed a PGY1 residency at Prisma Health Richland in Columbia, SC, and maintains a clinical ambulatory care practice affiliated with Prisma Health.
